I've had this phone for almost a month now and I'm very satisfied with it. It has great sound quality on both ends and I've talked on it for two hours straight without running out of battery power. The range is pretty good as well. About the only thing negative I can say about it is that the redial function will not work for me. This phone is definately a good buy if you are looking for a cordless voip phone to use with Skype.

By Marian W. Kiker (Oklahoma City)
I am not of the "digital computer generation." Have an old computer. Attempted to download the cd that came with the radio. Nothing is working right. Probably my fault. But it is not like plugging in a radio and turning it on. Guess I'll keep on trying, but I hate every minute of it and IT'S JUST TOO COMPLICATED!. Just get a few old saggy stations and they have advertisments! Won't do that again. Just going to buy books from now on. The fellow who sold it to me has emailed and sent me some websites. But I am just flat tired of the whole thing.

This product doesnt support WPA Encryption, I would have to hardwire it in to the network or downgrade my network security settings to WEP; I cant do either of those two.

As for the product itself, I liked the removable speakers and It is capable of searching the internet for live streaming media. However, the menu seems a bit ancient.

When I bought this item from "alectrics" it was very cheap, about $20. Now I see the price is up I would get a more modern unit. I alredy owned 3 WAP11's so I needed this to be compatable in a relay type system. Linksys is notroious for having incompatablities between different version of the same model, so beware if you need special features as you may need matched versions, not just matched models. I use this WAP11 as a range extender for my other WAP11's and it works very well.... BECAUSE the versions are an exact match! Don't ignore this warning, I did and it cost me to make it right. A note about buying from "alectrics". I had given them a good review (5) but they kept sending me messages begging for a 5 rating. After the third message in two months I withdrew my reccomendation.

 "Another winner from Linksys" 2005-09-21
By Tim Matthews (Nebraska)
This card was very difficult to install. I had to:

1) Open the package

2) Power up the Zaurus 5500 (V3.10 ROM)

3) Plug in the Linksys card

4) Configure the network connection

5) Surf the net and get email

I wish everything in life was this difficult. :) The WCF12 seems to have very good range. It constantly indicates a higher quality signal strength than the built in wireless card in my Sharp SL6000 in any given location.

I'm not sure how I'd rate power consumption as this is the first and only wireless card I've got for my 5500. The 5500's aren't known for their battery reserves anyway. About 45 minutes of surfing and it's time for a recharge.

It doesn't block the stylus port either which is a big plus. So, sure I'd buy another for my Zaurus anytime.

"Rocks right out of the box!" 2005-09-08
By I. Das (Hartford, CT USA)
First, kudos to Amazon's super speed. Even with "Super Saver" free shipping, I got the item delivered to my New York apartment in less than 36 hours of ordering, eight days before the estimated arrival (shocking, catches you off guard, doesn't it).

Unlike those here that the Wi-Fi card didn't work for, I had a great experience. I have an HP iPaq 2110, with Windows Pocket PC 2003 SE. The Linksys card worked right out of the box, with the software on the CD that was provided (i.e., I did not even need to go to their website to get the latest installation software). The available Wi-Fi networks were detected seamlessly as soon as the card was plugged in. The connection speed is great, and pages load up surprisingly fast (even heavier ones, like Yahoo mail, have exceeded my expectation). So far there has not been a single glitch. I had tried a Sandisk Wi-Fi card prior to this, with disastrous results (apparently Sandisk is getting out of the Wi-Fi business altogether). I could not get my PDA to recognize the card after it went into standby, and in general, connectivity was very erratic, and I had to send it back. Sandisk had blamed it all on "Windows Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition", which they had not guaranteed compatibility with. Neither had Linksys, but their card had no problem with the operating system. The power on the card turns off as it should whenever the PDA goes into standby, and 'wakes up' again when the PDA is turned on, all quite naturally. Thanks to Linksys for a product that finally works.

 "Works Great, so far" 2008-03-31
By Mark B (NJ)
I bought the Linksys WKPC54G Wireless-G Network Kit for Notebooks on Amazon for a great price ($36.25). I must say I was very apprehensive because of all the negative reviews. I've had a Linksys BEFSR41 4 port wired router for the last 7 years and it has been as solid as a rock. Anyway, I replaced the BEFSR41 with the WRK54G, hooked up all the wired connections (3 total, including a print server) and everything worked. Internet and local network worked fine. Turnkey installation. Next, I installed the CD software for the wireless card on a 4 year old DELL laptop (Windows XP) and everything went okay. The software indicated that it was connected to the router but it said I had no Internet connection. To make a long story short, I powered the router off/on and everything (including my Internet connection) worked fine. One thing I did notice was that anytime I made a change to my wireless settings on the router or laptop (especially wireless security), I had to cycle power on the router. Hardwire connections never had a problem. All in all, this combo works great. Range is pretty good and all my kids wireless game devices have no problem connecting. Buy it if the price is right. I've used it 3 days, only time will tell...

 "It Worked for Me!" 2009-03-26
By J. Ferrero (Bozeman, MT, USA)

My experience with the WRV210 has been excellent. This was my first time setting up a VPN. I can assure you that any first time IPSec VPN setup will be tedious. Dealing with routers, modems, firewalls, certificates, and static IP addresses, is no picnic. That said, the WRV210 with QuickVPN client makes the task a good deal easier. I can understand other reviewers, here and elsewhere, that are not as positive regarding the WRV210. But I suspect that their ratings reflect more the tedium of the setup process rather than the device itself. And, face it, no one box, or one piece of software, is going to go out there, find the exact network that you care about, configure the routers, the modems, the firewalls, etc. with the exact functionality that you desire. To credit Linksys, the WRV210 User Guide is extensive. In some 75 pages, they clearly discuss many of the issues involved. The Linksys Online Forum was also great at filling in the blanks.

I also used the great freeware application UltraVNC (rev 1.0.5.3) to add a remote desktop connection capability through my WRV210 VPN "tunnel". It works great. (A big "thank you!" to the UltraVNC developers. My contribution is on the way.) At this point I think that I could write another chapter to the Linksys User Guide or Linksys Forum documenting my experience. I really love the robust features like a maximum of ten VPN clients, and up to four wireless SSID's. My WRV210 setup is in a small commercial studio that offers free Wi-Fi to its customers. The WRV210 wireless capability allowed me to tailor the hotspot for maximum user convenience as well as system security. It even provides a wireless LAN scheduling capability, as well as wireless isolation within a SSID which is great protection for public hotspots.

My VPN setup involves both Windows Vista and Windows XP machines. The WRV210 worked flawlessly with both operating systems. To those small business owners wanting to have a VPN capability like the big guys, the WRV210 is an outstanding cost-effective solution. I highly recommend it.

 "Buggy" 2009-03-08
By B. Vaughn (Texas)
The basic setup is fine but the extras are unreliable. I have not had any issues with the basic routing and wireless functionality of this router but the VPN requires linksys software and has only worked a few times for me. The other function I was interested in was the multiple vlans which does allow you to setup isolated vlans they all exist in the same subnet. Athough the vlans are isolated from each other it would have been nice to be able to create firewall rules to allow traffic to transverse vlans.

"Not suitable for SOHO or non-windows VPN, or much else" 2009-01-30
By Mike Meyer (Herndon, VA)
I've been using the Linksys [[ASIN: B0002I7288 RV042]] as a SOHO
router for a couple of years now. Works great, recommended, and people
I've recommended it to also like it.

What I expected was a version of that router with a WLAN capability
added. What I got was a cheap home router with a cheap VPN capability.

For starters, the WRV210 is a pain to configure. Hitting "Save" in
Safari would cause Safari to complain about not being able to load the
page, and your configuration changes would be lost. Worse yet, some of
the time this would cause that page to be reset to the default
configuration. Possibly IE would work better, but I shouldn't have to
find and boot a Windows box just to configure a router.

I persisted trying to set it up. Seems that, unlike the RV042, this
router doesn't support PPTP VPNs - which are what you get on Windows
by default, and also on the Mac and iPhone. The options are a Cisco
productonly only available on some versions of Windows, or
IPSEC. Cisco's VPN might be reasonable to set up, but people make
money selling software to configure IPSEC VPN's properly - and still
won't guarantee that two arbitrary vendors products will work
together. This could take some time to get working; on to something
else.

So I tried to setup the firewall. While there's a firewall tab,
there's no "rules" section, and nothing resembling it. Some nice tools
for limiting *outbound* traffic, but that's not really my concern. The
usual port forwarding and port triggering that any cheap router
has. But no way to, for instance, block all traffic between the WAN
and my internal network. Worse yet, there's no 1-1 NAT capability -
just port forwarding and the relatively cheesy DMZ ip address - again
features found on most cheap routers.

Ok, maybe I asked to much of this router. I needed a good SOHO
wireless VPN router. This isn't it. It's missing capability that I
consider critical for a SOHO router. Given the lack of PPTP VPN
support, it isn't even a very good VPN router. Given the
configurationp problems, ti's not a very good router, period.

"Works very well when set up properly." 2009-04-09
By B. Waggoner (Nevada)
My application is wireless-G in the suburbs with Windows XP SP2 and a cable modem upstream. Windows shows faint signals coming from 4 neighbors in addition to my strong signal. Initial setup was very easy, but my wireless link kept disappearing at random, sometimes coming back in a few minutes, other times not for several hours (unable to reconnect). I used Internet Explorer to log onto the router setup menus 4 times in as many days, changing the wireless channel number, disabling wireless-B, and disabling the "adaptive channel expansion" option. Finally I found a channel with no interference, and the router works perfectly. Having a router with increased range not only boosts your own signal, but also interferes with neighbors and leaves your own router more open to interference from neighbors. So the router works perfectly once you find a wireless channel not being used by anybody else in the neighborhood, but there's no excuse for Windows XP and/or the Linksys router not helping you find an unused channel in the first place. Interference from neighbors on the same channel no doubt causes many of the bad reviews herein and Linksys product returns, so I cannot fathom why they apparently haven't thought about this fundamental issue and come up with a good (i.e. automatic) solution.

Linksys products over the years have proven to be less than reliable and the WRT54GX4 may be the culmination of this dubious achievement status.

Like all Linksys products the main issues are functionality, consistency and ease of implementation. I have only thirty years experience in the IT world which perhaps under qualifies me to properly setup these units.

Avoid using these overpriced, under performing products whenever possible and you'll be much happier or disregard this review and find out why millions of people are on a first named basis with Rashis (from Bombay) one of the dozens of friendly customer support individuals sub-contracted by the company to man their very busy customer support lines 24/7.  "AS GOOD AS N ROUTERS OUT THERE!" 2008-03-08
By J. Reyes (Los Angeles, CA)
After trying to replace the WRT54GX with an N router to get better range, I discovered this router gives me better range than all the N routers I tried: the D-Link DIR-655, the Negear RangeMax Dual Band Wireless N router, and the Belkin N1 wireless router. Okay people, my room is VERY FAR away from the router location, and at least five walls stand in between. I get one bar from the WRT54GX, but it works. The Netgear and the Belkin routers didn't ever register a bar. The D-Link worked but dropped frequently and then locked me out. On a wireless G signal, this router appears to be as fast as the N routers. I have the SRX400 wireless card that goes with it, and when paired up with this routers, its speed is on par with any N card, N router configuration I tried. It's lighting fast. Shame on Linksys for discontinuing support for Windows Vista on adapters for this router, for giving up on its technology basically. It's awesome. I love it and in my opinion, it's the best router out there for my purpose. On a last note, it's been ultra reliable.
