 "This adapter rules!" 2009-07-13
By Joshua Mcallister (Murfreesboro, TN)
I bought this adapter a few years ago back when Area 51 for the Xbox came out and Killzone for the playstation 2 came out. I love this thing! Like I said, this thing is a few years old. But it has been really good to me! I would bring my Xbox 1 over to a family or friends house and turn this adapter on. If the left light lit up (and DIDN'T flash!) you had a good unsecure signal and you could start playing Xbox Live! This thing was hooked up to so many different Xbox's, PS2's, 360's, and computers its not funny! Wireless B is old, YES I KNOW! But with a 16MB connection, I can only download at 2MB+ a second using a wired connection and a download accelerator! So this 11MB wireless b adapter is really all you need! I also have the Linksys Wireless N Dual Band gaming adaptor, BUT sometimes this one is better. WHY??? Because this one does NOT require a computer to set up! If there is a unsecure signal in reach, this baby picks it up and gets you online in just a few seconds after powering it up! With the 99 dollar Wireless N Dual Band Adapter, you HAVE to have a computer to set it up. So if you have both adapters, you are set! (I have a EEE PC 901 now. Before I didn't, so if the wirelss signal only worked near the window, but the desktop was far away from the window, you were out of luck!)

A couple years ago, While traveling out of state, I had an inverter in my car. I had my Vonage adapter, Home Phone, and this adapter in the car. If we wanted to make a phone call, we would turn this adapter on, and if there was a light on the device, we could make phone calls using our Vonage! (Just drive up to a place that says "Free Wifi"!)

Long story short, this adapter is old. But it still works great and its all you really need. It will get you online with a computer, or it will get you on Xbox LIVE. NO CONFIGURATION AT ALL is needed, UNLESS you are using WEP! (If you are using WPA, you need to downgrade to WEP! This is old technology. Ir only handles unsecure and WEP Wireless. That's it. But it does that well!) I have had this thing for about 5 years or so. NEVER ONCE, have I needed a computer to set it up to access an unsecure signal!

"Making this thing work right is a well-kept secret" 2009-02-12
By J. R. Vallee (Joliet, IL USA)
Every once in a while, Linksys gets it right. This was not one of those times. Their setup procedure isn't even close to being right. I had to go online and chat with a linksys tech, and he set me straight on how to do it. I'll outline it here for you and save you the trouble:

Set your computer to a static ip address of 192.168.0.005

Plug your WGA11B into that computer's LAN port

Run the WGA11B setup utility.

Please note that this WGA11B will only work with WEP security.

There you have it. Once it's configured it works as advertised.

"not for the inexperienced user" 2009-05-04
By chester hill (chester ma)
If you have a Vista computer, set up will be difficult and time consuming. The firmware and software must be upgraded before use. Even then, the software will not work without changing the properties of the individual executable files. If this is not done correctly, then the software must be uninstalled and reinstalled. Of course, the uninstall feature does not remove the software completely so the various registry files must be identified and individually removed before reinstalling the software.

None of these problems, or the procedures to work around them, are provided by Linksys- it has to be obtained from an internet search. It took me a week to get it operational. Even then, the player won't work after a restart unless the utility program is uninstalled/reinstalled, or the executable files are manually started.

Once it is operational, it works as advertised, although there is an occasional brief pause in playback.

Bottom line: If I had to do it again, I would not purchase this player; I would buy a different one, probably the airlink.

 "Not for the novice" 2008-04-18
By James L. Davis (Kokomo, IN)
I have a couple of these devices and know them pretty well. When I got a new computer in 2007, I learned that these did not work with Vista. Well, Linksys finally published new firmware in March 2008, so now they work again! Setting them up by the instructions will only work if you use a Linksys wireless router and plan to use only one music bridge. Otherwise, you need to set them up using your web browser at url: 192.168.1.210. Then you have to know what you are doing, since there are no instructions for that setup method. (If you buy a new one, be sure it says, "Vista" compatible, otherwise, you have to download new firmware and install it through the web browser method. There are no instructions for installing!) To top that, one of my music bridges failed after a year and a half, and I had to buy a replacement. Now everything is working, but I can send music to only one bridge from a computer. If I want both bridges to work at once, I have to use a second computer to send music to the second bridge. Also, there is a buffer delay which means the music timing is different between the two sources - sometimes as much as two seconds! If all that is OK for you, I will say that the output music is high-quality and reliable. I sometimes run both bridges all day on the same music and tolerate the difference in timing. The noise floor is low, there are no interruptions or noises, and I hear no distortion. My wife loves the music I send to the kitchen! (In April 2008, I bought one of these from an Amazon dealer; it did NOT have the Vista firmware.)

 "WRT54GS Review" 2009-03-26
By John Roark (Dallas)
I like this low cost wireless routers control of several variables. Especially the control of the beacon interval timing. Then again the low cost Netgear wireless routers offer good control of other variables that the Linksys did not. For non default setup the Linksys interface is not as easy to setup as the 2 wireless Netgear routers I control. That being said the backup file for the Linksys appears more secure than the Netgear router backup file. Word of warning to everybody secure your networks.

I hope this helps.

Set up was easy enough. Pictures and some videos work fine. The DMA 2200 only works with Windows Media Center, so watching internet tv is very limited. If your apps. don't integrate with WMC, (Hulu is one exammple.) Then the app. won't work with the DMA 2200. I wish I would have known this. I didn't find that fact in any of the product descriptions. If I could return it for a full refund, I would. No wonder there are so many of these on eBay!

Theres also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. And you can get to your files from anywhere in the world through the Internet. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-Ns Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce dead spots in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 3 times farther than standard Wireless-G.

I did not get a better reception than the 4 years old SMC router. My son also complained about me paying so much for this piece of crap when comparing to the SMC router that I owned for more than 4 years.

Every now and then I had to reset this router ever after upgrading to the latest firmware. After several months, it finally died and I couldn't get it up anymore, i.e. never able to get to the http admin home page.

Luckily, it has 3 years warranty, instead of getting a refurbished one of the same model, Linksys is sending me a refurbished WRT600N which suppose to me more expensive than the WRT350N. Not sure if it is sure but that's what the email said.

But I am not so excited about getting the WRT600N either. Based on the review from other people, the WRT600N does not seem to be any better. Linksys has been selling good quality products but I am disappointed about the WRT350N. In this case, I do not recommend it to anyone.

 "WRT350N working great" 2009-03-04

I installed this to use with my Desktop (XP) and a Laptop (Vista), the Desktop wired, the Laptop wireless. The wiring of the Desktop was easy, I installed the software, followed directions and startup went perfect (did need to call my ISP for one piece of info). The Desktop worked flawlessly.

The Laptop came with a wireless card so only needed a menu setup and it was working, at least I could connect to the internet. When I tried to set up file and printer sharing with my Desktop (the printer is connected directly to the desktop) I found the lack of any explicit instructions related to this was a problem for me. Several days of internet research finally resolved it and now all works perfect.

... you may just be throwing $11 plus shipping and hours of your time down a rat hole. I bought a "retail box" version of this adapter from Amazon last week for about $20. After installing it in my IBM Thinkpad laptop, I found that the laptop would no longer go into standby (sleep) with the adapter present. Further on-line investigation suggests that the Linksys driver does not properly implement Microsoft's NDIS driver standard in the area of device power control, and hence blocks the standby operation.

Linksys' driver for the device I bought (WRT54G, v3) was last updated over two years ago, although a search shows that numerous other purchasers of this device been have complained about this problem, as well as the ineffectiveness of Linksys customer service. As a retired Cisco exec, I am truly ashamed of the shoddy quality of this device software.
